TIRANA, July  11 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama commemorated on Tuesday the 28th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide.

“July 11 – 28 years since the Srebrenica genocide,” Rama wrote in a post on social media.

On July 11, 1995, Bosnian Serb units murdered more than 8,000 Muslim men and boys in the eastern Bosnian enclave of Srebrenica.

About 15,000 men and boys managed to escape, hiding in the forest, but many others were killed by Serbian military units.

The European Parliament has established the commemoration of July 11 as a day of remembrance for the victims of the largest massacre in Europe since World War II.

The Assembly of Albania approved last year with 113 votes in favor, the Resolution proposed by the deputies of the Socialist Party for the condemnation of the Srebrenica genocide.

The Resolution on Srebrenica, an initiative of the SP, reads that, “The Assembly of the Republic of Albania confirms Albania’s position that the denial of the genocide committed against the Bosnian population in Srebrenica by the Bosnian Serb units constitutes a violation of international law, encourages the phenomenon of impunity for war crimes, as well as violates the dignity of more than 8,000 civilians who were massacred in Srebrenica, the survivors and their families, but also about 10,000 Albanians killed during the ethnic cleansing in Kosovo and 20,000 women raped from the Serbian regime of Slobodan Milosevic;”

It expresses deep pain for the victims and human traumas caused by the genocide in Srebrenica, as well as full understanding and sincere sympathy for all those injured during the bloody war in Bosnia and Herzegovina;
