TIRANA, September 30 /ATA/ The regional maritime transport conference “Towards a competitive and sustainable maritime sector in the Western Balkans” “World Maritime Day” was held in the Albanian capital, Tirana.

During her speech at this conference, Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku stressed the significance of connecting the Western Balkans (WB) region with the European Union (EU).

“During the past decade, it has come to the attention of the EU and the Western Balkans the importance of our interconnection with the European transport network. Ports have unfortunately been left out of the focus of this process and the framework of EU cooperation with the Western Balkans. During the pandemic, we saw how vulnerable the region was to the lack of infrastructural interconnection or bureaucratic hurdles we encountered. Excellent work with green corridors is not enough, we must go further to reduce tariff and non-tariff trade barriers”, said the minister.

“Albania has done considerable work in the framework of the Berlin process for the materialization of interconnection projects thanks to the support of the EU and the WBF. Among them, the Blue Corridor, the Tirana-Durrës-Rinas railway, is already a concrete project that starts the implementation on the ground, Arbri road, which is expected to be delivered in a few months or many other projects for the country and the region “, said the minister.

Among other things, Minister Balluku focused on the significance of justice reform that makes Albania more credible in the eyes of foreign investors./a.a/p.s./
