TIRANA, Oct. 12/ATA/ Analyzes carried out in 2 laboratories inside and outside the country yielded the same result, that the seed was not the cause of the lack of tomatoes production in some farms in Roskovec and Berat.

This is the conclusion of the report drafted by a working group set up by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) and the Agricultural University of Tirana.

“We received the seeds from the distributor and analyzed them in 2 laboratories in parallel. Therefore, we have the absolute conviction that there is no problem with the seeds or with various pathological loads that can lead to the reduction of production,” the head of the Department of Plant Protection, Faculty of Agriculture and Environment at the Agricultural University of Tirana, Shpend Shahini said.

“This year’s climatic parameters are unsuitable for having normal fruiting, as they lead to pollen drying, and not every farmer has complied with the planting deadlines. Due to high temperatures and a low air humidity, a group of pests appear, which are the white wings of the greenhouses, which this year are more numerous and much more aggressive,” MARD said. //a.i/

TIRANA, April 24 /ATA/- Farmers are orienting towards the organic food production, as the right model for generating high profits and safe exports.

Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) reported on Saturday that, there are over 85 organic farms operating throughout the country.

40 farms or 50% of the total are destined to produce herbs and medicinal for export, 12 farms or 15% of the total are olive groves that produce bio-based products and vegetables, nuts and chestnuts.

Bioproduction in Albania faces more challenges than conventional production. In the same surface area is obtained less production and at a higher cost as pesticides and seeds applied by conventional manufacturers are not used.

To this end, the government has increased support for farms through national schemes by financing 100,000 ALL, in the second year, 150,000 ALL and 200,000 ALL for certified organic farm, in the first year. //a.i/
