TIRANA, April 23 /ATA/ Prime Minister and Socialist Party leader Edi Rama stated on Wednesday that securing 71 mandates in the May 11 elections is not in question for the Socialist Party. He stressed the importance of Albanians coming together beyond political differences to send a strong message across to Europe—that their aspiration to join the European family is both genuine and rightful.

The Prime Minister stated that the May 11 elections should send a message that goes beyond left and right, and beyond the numerical strength of the Socialist Party.
“Today, Albania is approaching the finish line. From where I stand, Albania is facing the door of the EU. That’s why, on May 11th, you must give us the power to negotiate with the EU and finalize those negotiations by 2027. We were the ‘black sheep’ when we took Albania out of the ‘swamp’ and the ‘owl’ that tells stories today. They listened to us with frustration, because that’s how the ‘owl’ left things. Before you supported me in removing the ‘owl’ from office, no one would even set foot in Tirana. On May 16th, the entire European continent will be here—from the Prime Minister of the UK to the President of Turkey, from the President of Sweden to the President of Greece; they will all arrive in Tirana,” said Rama.
The Prime Minister emphasized during the electoral meeting with Socialists in Poliçan that on May 11th, votes are needed for the negotiations, as there are 250,000 pages covering all kinds of topics.

“On May 11th, the Albanian people must send a very clear message beyond the left and right to those coming on the 16th, beyond the numerical strength of the Socialist Party, beyond the 71 mandates, that we, the Albanian people, regardless of our differences, want to enter that house which rightfully belongs to us. The place envisioned by our National Hero, fought for by our Renaissance figures, as they wrote: ‘Our sun rises from where it sets.’ Those who rose in 1990 and said: ‘We want Albania to be like all of Europe.’ This is the moment, fate has come to us,” emphasized Rama.

Rama responded to the criticism about half of his government being in prison, explaining that those facing legal action served in his first or second term. He emphasized that the justice reform was essential to free the judiciary from political influence and ensure unbiased justice. He expressed pride in the progress made, stating that for the first time in Albania’s history, since its founding in 1912, the power to administer justice has been removed from politics and placed in the hands of the judiciary.

Rama stated that in the past, leaders like the “swamp owl” misused the sword of justice from their offices to imprison political opponents, and despite innocent protesters being killed, the perpetrators never faced consequences. He emphasized that while justice may be slow, it is now more powerful and will no longer be ignored.

Rama stated that Albania is no longer trapped in a “swamp” but is now close to joining the EU, aiming for equality before the law. He emphasized that justice no longer asks who you are or who you’re with, and that they have freed justice from corruption. He urged Albanians to vote for the Socialist Party on May 11th, stating that joining the EU would guarantee equality before the law, while failing to do so would reverse progress.
