TIRANA, Nov 13 /ATA/ In the meeting of the Conference of Chairpersons of parliamentary committees, the Democratic Party’s request for an extension of the timeline of the Parliamentary Inquiry Committee on Sterilization and Health Check-ups was rejected.

Representatives of the majority have dismissed the opposition’s request. The Democratic Party’s request for postponement of the deadline was presented by MP Ina Zhupa, who argued that there was not enough time to take testimonies from the witnesses approved by both parties.

“The Commission has not delivered on all the points set out in the investigation plan on the questioning of witnesses, and added to that the Commission’s report has not been written, which, at best, requires 10 to 14 days before its presentation to the commission and Parliament. If its deadline is not extended, there will be no time left to write the report,” the Democratic Party’s request says.

Tomorrow is the deadline for this Commission, while former Minister Ilir Beqaj has been awaiting to testify.

Beqaj’s testimony, who is currently in prison, has been put on hold amid the heated debate between the majority and the opposition. /j.p/sm/
