TIRANA, Oct 21 /ATA/ Minister of Health and Social Protection, Ogerta Manastirliu, stated on Thursday from Shkodra that the Albanian government is ready to guarantee the stock of vaccines for administration of the booster dose based on the recommendation of experts.

“The Committee of Vaccination Experts recommended including in the protocols the third dose, otherwise known as the ‘booster’ jab. They have also recommended lowering the eligibility age for vaccination to +16 years old and have also discussed and recommended vaccination for +12 years old, but only for children with health problems. These recommendations will be discussed tomorrow at the meeting of the Technical Committee of Experts,” Manastirliu said.

Asked by reporters about the students’ vaccination, Manastirliu said that “we have deployed vaccination teams in every university. Of course universities have the responsibility to organize and control whether the students are vaccinated. But I believe we have a collective responsibility to sensitize as many students as possible. I am confident that the number of vaccinated students will increase in the days to come.”

Regarding the flu vaccination program, Minister of Health said that “a front in this whole war is the battle against seasonal flu. We will start the flu vaccination from tomorrow onwards of the medical staff to continue with the population to ensure the protection of health.”

These statements were made by Minister of Health during the inspections of investments made recently in Shkodra, for the new mammography in the regional hospital./k.s/j.p/sm/
