TIRANA, Sept 15 /ATA/ – By Maela Marini/ Minister of Health and Social Protection, Ogerta Manastirliu, said on Thursday in Parliament that over a span of 8 years the government has increased the budget for healthcare by 87% and has never set a cap on spending for treatment of children.

The minister gave this statement following the remarks of the Democratic Party MP, Albana Vokshi, who said that she did not receive the requested information from the Ministry of Health regarding the treatment of children with leukemia and tumors.

“Whenever allegations are levelled or fabrications are made, the citizens need to know the truth. Today you are standing up for a cause that is unsubstantiated as you are trying to find causes for your demagogy and rhetoric of the day. To protect the health of children and all Albanian citizens, in 8 years we have increased the health budget by 87%,” said Manastirliu.

The minister emphasized that “we have managed to transform health system beyond recognition from health centers to hospitals.”

She emphasized that with these investments the government is taking the health system to a whole new level in order to keep up with the time and not leave children as it was 8 years ago.

“Children in our hospitals are treated according to protocols and therapeutics, according to the requirements of specific treatment services. We support with budget allocations all demands for treatments. This means that the government has never set a cap on the budget needed for medical treatment for children, never. So we have increased the budget for medications and equipment, and for children we have never set cap on spending for medical services.”
