The Albania’s Minister of Culture Elva Margariti said today that, “covered by green vegetation, in danger of loss, after complete restoration, the Church of St. Friday in Lukova has regained its values and has been returned to the believers.”

This basilica-type church (from ancient Greek, royal portico), built on a hill, dates back to the 17th century. It is located in the western quarter of Lukova, in the middle of an olive grove.

The church is part of the group of domed basilicas. It has two entrance doors, one on the south side and the other on the west side. The church has six columns and arches. The bell tower of particular importance. It was donated by the king of Naples in 1695, but unfortunately disappeared in 1967, with the destruction of many churches and mosques during the dictatorship period.

The church is one of the most interesting objects to visit in Lukova, the beautiful coastal village, 20 kilometers away from Saranda. //a.i/

Prime Minister Edi Rama shared today in the social media a view of this church, declared a cultural monument of category I, which has already undergone a complete restoration and is no more in danger of collapse.

“Here’s the revived Church of St. Friday in Lukova, a monument of the XVII century, now ready to receive visiting friends”, said Rama.

The works that have been carried out in the church of St. Friday in Lukova, restoration and conservation, have taken this cultural monument out of danger.
