TIRANA, March 20 /ATA/ – The main opposition Democratic Party lawmaker Jorida Tabaku said Monday that “Albania ranks last in the region for per capita income and purchasing power.”

According to Tabaku, “the government plans to level a 23% personal income tax rate on the middle class.”

“A special law will impose a 23% tax rate on the self-employed entrepreneurs; while oligarchs are infinitely pardoned for deferred tax liabilities. Albania is the least suitable country for doing business in the region. Albania has a captured state that has adopted 10 pieces of solicited legislation. The tax system favors oligarchy and not competitiveness,” she claimed.

To this end, she put forward three proposals at the start of the parliamentary session.

“The free market versus the captured market and the captured state that produces a closed system; the fight against corruption through laws and the political will that this government does not have; social mobility through competition rather than oligarchy. We can overthrow this three-decades long rotten system through market freedom, social mobility, the fight against corruption and low taxes,” she said.
