Through an amendment to the normative act on transparency over basic food items and other related products adopted by the government in March, the Council of Ministers decided to offer guarantees to the food importers through sovereign loans in the cases when they need to fund their commercial operations.

Today’s amendment to the Normative Act also stipulates that the companies should maintain food reserves for up to a three-month period to help ensure uninterrupted market supply.

“All the entities operating in food import or production, subject to this normative act, are obliged to take measures and provide uninterrupted supply in accordance with the Board decision.  All entities that trade wholesale products, subject to this normative act, necessary for the supply of the population, are obliged to take measures to maintain the reserves they trade for a period of three months or in accordance with the life shelf of the products, in order to cope with special situations in the domestic market,” according to the new amendment.
