TIRANA, June 5 /ATA/ Livestock is a priority in the policies of the agricultural sector.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development announced that the National Scheme 2023 will finance all applicant livestock farmers.

More than 80% of livestock farmers’ applications have been verified on the ground and very soon livestock farmers are expected to withdraw the subsidies that the state budget has earmarked for them.

Concretely, livestock farms with no less than 10 cows will be supported, in the value of up to 10,000 ALL/head, but no more than 500,000 ALL per subject.

As for the ruminants, farms with no less than 100 sheep\or goats will be supported, but no more than 360 thousand ALL per subject.

The budget for the National Scheme this year amounts to 3.3 billion ALL.
Funding for livestock from the National Agricultural Support Scheme for 2022 increased to 1,517,325,200 ALL compared to 1,030,784,000 ALL in 2021. 6,211 livestock farmers benefited from the Support Scheme for 2022, as compared to 4 316 livestock farmers who benefited in 2021.
Meanwhile, this year the number of beneficiary livestock farmers is expected to almost double compared to 2021.

Today, large livestock farms deal not only with cattle breeding and milk production, but thanks to the IPARD II program, they are exploring the possibility of expanding their capacities in milk processing as well, through the purchase of high-tech machines and equipment that guarantee preservation of milk quality.
The consolidation and formalization of this sector, together with the work of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and relevant institutions to increase food security, enabled Albania to start meat exports to Saudi Arabia at the end of 2022, thus marking a major development for livestock and new agricultural export markets.

Today, the number of livestock heads slaughtered in certified slaughterhouses has increased by 32%, while ISUV’s role as a reference laboratory and compass of the sector has been strengthened with more than 1.8 million euros of investment, and a 30% increase in their staff salary.
