TIRANA, March 10 /ATA/- By Maela Marini/ Prime Minister Edi Rama confirmed that the key principle for the SP list in the May 11 elections is that no deputy, including those who have received one mandate from the SP, will be included in the closed list.

In the meeting of the Socialist Party parliamentary group, Rama emphasized that the same principle applies to women deputies as well.

Regarding female deputies, Rama stated, “We are applying the same principle, though we will see how it ultimately unfolds. All deputies with a mandate will be part of the race. This is due to the new system we have, which ensures a balanced competition—men compete with men, and women compete with women.”

The Prime Minister mentioned that the process of drafting the candidate lists for the May 11 elections is in progress and will be concluded in the SP presidency.

In the meantime, Rama urged anyone who does not wish to be on the open list to inform the political leader in their respective district.

Rama said, “The core principle of the new list is that no male deputy who has received even one mandate under the SP logo will be placed on the closed list. Anyone who, for any reason, does not want to be on the open list has the right to let us know in advance.”

He stated, “In principle, the battle should be fought first by those with more experience and who have received greater support from both the voters and the SP.”

Rama emphasized that the open list will also include many young people.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister focused on the representation of political leaders in the district lists.

“I have stated that political leaders should be put on the open list. However, the issue with my reasoning is that this would derail the entire process, as it wouldn’t allow for equal opportunities in the race. Additionally, it wouldn’t ensure any genuine political direction for the competition,” emphasized Rama.

Rama stated that if political leaders focus on securing votes for themselves, their elevated status risks creating inequality and disorienting the entire team.
