Albania’s Brazilian head coach Sylvinho has named a strong starting lineup as the team seeks a vital three points to stay in contention for qualification.

Sylvinho has picked the following line-up: Strakosha, Hysaj, Gjimshiti, Ajeti, Mitaj,  Laçi, Asllani, Shehu, Broja, Manaj and Bajrami.

Latvia’s head coach has Paolo Nicolato has decided to start the game with the following line-up: Zviedris, Balodis, Černomordijs, Dašķevičs, Varslavāns, Jurkovskis, Cigaņiks, Zelenkovs, Vapne, Šits and Meļņiks.

Heading into the fifth round of group matches, Albania sits third with 5 points from four games — two behind second-placed Serbia (7 points), who have played one match fewer. England tops the group with a perfect 12 points, while Latvia trails close behind Albania with 4 points.

Tonight’s encounter is seen as a must-win for the Red and Blacks, who must claim maximum points to keep their hopes alive for a first-ever World Cup qualification.

Elsewhere in Group K, Serbia hosts England in Belgrade. Any slip by the Serbians could open the door for Albania to climb into the second qualifying spot, provided they overcome Latvia at home.

Historically, Albania and Latvia have faced off six times – all matches ending in draws. Their most recent meeting on June 10, 2025, ended 1–1 in Riga, continuing a pattern of evenly-matched duels. Both teams have scored and conceded seven goals each in these encounters – a balance Sylvinho’s side will look to break tonight.

The match will be officiated by Polish referee Damian Sylwestrzak, assisted by Pawel Sokolnicki and Adam Karasewicz.
