Prefect of Korça region Nertil Jole gave the news saying that the project was designed by Korça Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage, with financial support from the European Union, the Ministry of Culture of Albania and North Macedonia.

This rehabilitation takes place in context of the “Smart4you2” project. The implementation of the project is expected to increase the number of visitors to Prespa, as a very special destination of the Korça region.

Maligrad is a small island located in the Albanian part of the Lake Prespa. It is characterized by a large number of caves, suitable for wild fauna. In the interior of the island, there is the church of St. Mary. An inscription on the South side, the earliest in this church, dates back to the year 1345 along with the first phase of the decoration of this church with frescoes. This church is an important tourist attraction not only for the national park of Prespa, but for the entire region and Albania.

Objects such as tiles, columns and capitals have also been found in Maligrad, which according to archaeologists belong to a Paleo-Christian church that is thought to have been in the upper part of the lake. /j.p/p.s./
