TIRANA, July 22 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama took to the social media on Tuesday to share footage highlighting a case of public space misuse, emphasizing that “a special legal package targeting such violators will soon be introduced soon.”

The video posted by Rama shows a citizen painting a boat in a public area, causing pollution and obstructing the shared space.

“This can in no way be a normal scene in the life of a neighborhood in Albania’s cities by 2030, when we join the EU, let alone an everyday sight just one kilometer from Tirana’s main boulevard,” Rama said.

The government head underlined that the issue is not simply about sending officials to remove unauthorized structures and impose fines, only to see them return repeatedly “like a cat-and-mouse game.”

“There must be a clear legal and cultural red line for anyone who infringes on public spaces by occupying, building, polluting, or conducting business at the community’s expense. Such acts must be criminally punished as violations of civic coexistence,” Rama stated.

Since early July, a nationwide campaign has been launched to free public spaces unlawfully occupied by businesses and individuals.

TIRANA, April 13 /ATA/ – The chairman of the Democratic Party announced Saturday that his party will forward to parliament a series of legal proposals and amendments designed to support the Special Anti-Corruption and Organized Crime Prosecution Structure (SPAK), and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

Speaking at a press conference, Basha said that “the anti-corruption package delivers on our promise for unconditional support for SPAK to look into any corrupt individual regardless of their political affiliations.”

“Our package comprises for main areas of legal interventions. The first is about the relevant amendments to the state budget to provide financial support and human resources. We will call for sufficient funding to increase number of NBI members by 50%,” Basha said.

According to him, the ruling Socialist Party and a faction of the opposition have launched an offensive to deter or take SPAK, NBI and the Special Court under control.

“They are doing whatever it takes to block work of this structure and prevent it from bringing corrupt individuals before justice at a time when a number of high-level officials are either in house arrest or are being indicted under corruption charges,” he said.

According to Basha, “DP is the only political force supporting SPAK unconditionally.”
