TIRANA, June 17 /ATA/ – By Maela Marini/ Deputy Minister of Interior, Besfort Lamallari, presented on Tuesday before Parliamentary Foreign Policy Committee several additions and amendments to the law “On Foreigners.”

Lamallari emphasized that the initiative aims to improve the rights of migrants, their family members, refugees, and asylum seekers, as well as social protection, by providing access to integration programs and services.

He added that the aim is to provide better information, streamlined procedures with shortened deadlines, as well as institutional strengthening of service delivery for migrants.

Deputy Minister of Interior also informed that the draft law is in line with the national migration strategy and addresses the objectives of the national plan for European integration.

“The draft law aims to establish a more favorable environment for foreign investors, migrants, and asylum seekers. It includes provisions for permits for skilled labor force, and the changes in the law are aligned with the parameters set forth by the new migration pact,” he added.

Lamallari emphasized that this initiative helps advance the strengthening of the capacities of institutions responsible for managing migration in Albania.

“The focus of this initiative is on strengthening the rights and safeguards that every migrant, asylum seeker, refugee, and their family members should enjoy in accordance with EU standards,” stated the Deputy Minister.

On the other hand, Lamallari underscored the advantages for the Albanian state stemming from the streamlining of procedures and the reduction of deadlines applicable to select categories of workers aimed at attracting talent to the labor market.

Regarding the need for accurate identification of these workers, Lamallari noted that this is carried out in cooperation with all relevant institutions, including the Criminal Police and the State Intelligence Service.

“In this comprehensive initiative comprising 60 articles, our primary objective has been to align the existing legal framework with EU directives and standards. Concerning expulsions, necessary measures are taken for every foreign individual deemed inadmissible in our country, particularly when public and national security are at risk,” he added. /j.p/sm/
