TIRANA, April 29/ATA/ The farmers throughout the country are expanding the areas of land planted with medicinal and aromatic herbs, from the export of which they provide higher economic income.

Prime Minister Edi Rama shared today a view of the lavender fields in Kushovo, Gramshi.

In Albania, there are over 7,000 species of plants, which consist of almost 32% of the entire flora of Europe.

In 2022, Albania exported over 15,000 tons of medicinal and aromatic plants, worth over 50 million Euros.

The most important export products are sage, oregano, thyme, lavender, etc. A small, but growing flow of essential oil exports has been recorded, as well as an increase in processing capacity in the country.

The production base consists mainly of wild Medicinal and Aromatic Plants found throughout the country.

The rich biodiversity in Albania represents an important potential for the development of the Medicinal and Aromatic Plants sector.

More than 400 species have been identified as Medicinal and Aromatic Plants of the Albanian flora, of which more than 200 species are collected and traded.

The Medicinal and Aromatic Plants are an important sector of the rural economy. Surveys show that in some rural areas, almost all households receive a significant portion of their income from the collection of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants./p.s./
