TIRANA, March 23 /ATA/ Minister of Interior Bledi Çuçi stated on Tuesday that during 2020 the State Police have referred to SPAK 243 files corresponding to 1,877 different assets, such as buildings, bars and restaurants, sites, bank accounts, etc.

Speaking at the launch ceremony of EU-funded project that supports the Albanian law enforcement agencies,
“Fight against organized crime in Albania through criminal and financial investigation” implemented by FIIAPP, Çuçi said that the Ministry of Interior has prioritized the crackdown on organized crime.

“For years now, we have crafted special strategies and action plans, have dedicated special structures and resources to deliver on this commitment. For this reason, today’s conference entitled” Fight against organized crime through criminal and financial investigation” is of paramount importance, as it is fully in line with the priorities of our agenda,” he said.

“This conference marks the launch of the first phase of this EU project, which is one of a kind. This project is one of the most important ones in the framework of cooperation with the EU and partner countries. The projected budget of 5.5 million euros for fight against crime remains a generous donation from EU countries and on this occasion we express our immense gratitude for this friendly support,” he said.

“Almost half of this fund will go to new equipment alone, over 2.4 million euros. This investment in infrastructure fulfills our key aspiration to modernize and improve the quality of law enforcement work up to the standards of an EU country. We are fully confident in our efforts to fight crime, as we have the support of law enforcement agencies of all EU countries,” said Çuçi.

“At the same time, this project will qualitatively build up our capacities in the fight against organized crime and narcotics trafficking in Albania through workshops, as well as improve the methods of investigation through support with high-tech equipment, softwares and hands-on assistance of European experts, ” Çuçi said.

“The investment in Forensic Institute will have a direct impact on enhancement and buildup of investigative capacities. Also, the support for establishment of joint investigation teams between our police forces will be reflected in solid track records of the fight against crime “, stressed Çuçi.

“The fact that Albania has gained the confidence of all EU countries is further proof that we are on the right track,” Çuçi said. /j.p/sm/
