TIRANA, May 16 /ATA/ Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa told the media ahead of the European Political Community Summit in Tirana that “Russia does not want peace in the region.”

Siliņa emphasized the importance of securing a 30-day unconditional ceasefire in Ukraine, noting that it is equally vital for the region.

She stated, “We have agreed on 17 sanction packages.”

Siliņa emphasized, “Unfortunately, Russia’s war in Ukraine rages on, so I know we will discuss these issues and advocate for a 30-day unconditional ceasefire. We understand its importance, and Ukraine wants this to happen.”

She stated, “Unfortunately, Russia is the only party unwilling to seek peace in our region. Therefore, if peace does not materialize, we will have to reach an agreement on further sanctions, as this remains the only way to curb Russia’s actions.”

Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa stated, “All countries in Europe seek security for their people and societies.”

Focusing on the topics to be discussed during the summit, she stated, “Today, we will also address issues related to illegal migration and economic cooperation, which are important matters for Lithuania and Albania. We will use this meeting as a valuable platform for all European leaders.”
