TIRANA, February 25/ATA/ The Carnival festival has enlivened the streets and squares of the city of Shkodra for three days in a row.

Thousands of citizens dressed in colorful costumes and Venetian masks added a magical atmosphere to the city.

Prime Minister Edi Rama shared in the social media moments from this celebration, which gathered students, young people and citizens of different age-groups from February 23-25.

The Carnival celebration closes today with the caravan spectacle. Citizens of all age-groups dressed in colorful costumes and masks paraded through the streets of the city making an impressive appearance during this celebration.

Meanwhile, in the afternoon, there was planed the burning of the scarecrow, which symbolizes the burning of negative phenomena while awaiting the arrival of the spring season.

Part of the celebration today is also the performance by the actors of the “Migjeni” theater; music played by the city band and singers; guest groups from Tuzi and Korça.

Shkodra is the city that celebrated the Carnival earliest in Albania. The first celebrations dated back to the second half of the 19th century, precisely in 1860, creating a solid tradition that continued until 1946, when, due to the communist regime, it was forbidden to celebrate, only to return as a tradition after the 90-ies.

Carnivals are also known for the irony they make of unpleasant social phenomena, and on the other hand, Shkodra has the primacy of intellectual, striking and stinging humor. This is one of the reasons that the festival is known in Shkodra as the “carnival masks”. There it has found a suitable ground to take root and flourish in this city, where they are celebrated more beautifully than anywhere else./k.s/r.e/p.s./

“Proud of Albania, but we still need patience, just a little more. Look at what is happening in neighboring countries in recent days, so please, be careful because we are coming out of the pandemic tunnel, but there is still a little way,” said Rama.

The graph posted by Rama presents the new infections during the last seven days, where Albania has the lowest number of infections in the region and not only, while countries like Italy, Germany and Spain are behind./p.s./
