TIRANA, October 13/ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama said today that, “The Western Balkans are not a problem to be solved, but a solution waiting to be integrated”.

This was the message that Prime Minister Rama extended to the first EU-Western Balkans Investment Forum, which is currently taking place in Tirana.

The prime minister stressed that, “This is the message of the new horizon, that the next chapter of Europe’s competitiveness should not be written only in Brussels or in other European capitals, but also in Podgorica, Tirana, Belgrade, Skopje, Pristina and Sarajevo together”.

Rama stressed that, “Some courage is needed to understand that the Western Balkans can become Europe’s regulatory buffer, its laboratory of resistance in the space to build the future”.

“From energy to critical raw materials, to infrastructure, artificial intelligence, high-tech manufacturing. These European value chains can be expanded, diversified and made stronger, because let’s put it bluntly, Europe does not have the luxury of depending on what it cannot control and we in the Balkans do not have the luxury of always being called potential at best”, Rama added.

Therefore, the prime minister stressed that this corner of Europe must become a fast lane for the transformation of Europe.

Rama said that this can become a vibrant living space for businesses and not only make us a place where European companies come for cheap labor, but for intelligent partnerships.

“Our country is not asking to be given a free seat at the table, but we are asking to help the EU in its efforts to build this table from scratch. Enlargement or unification cannot be just about geography, it must be about strategic intelligence”, Rama said.

The prime minister emphasized that we do not ask for charity or gifts from our European partners, but only for vision.

“The same vision that once brought together nations like Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary in the EU, opening up a new horizon that created extraordinary growth for them and brought the EU dividends it had not seen for decades. Let us outline together a roadmap where our incentives meet your priorities, our reforms respond to your needs and our ambitions match the European level,” said Rama.

While quoting Albert Camus, Rama emphasized that, “True generosity towards the future is to give everything to the present.”

“The power of Europe should not be measured by size, but by scope and by an imagination that is something that the Western Balkans have inside. So let us give everything we have to this upcoming moment of the new horizon. The need is here; the crisis has already arrived. So let us transform the need into vision and the crisis into creation”, said Rama.

The prime minister asked that this new horizon should be opened not only with declarations, but also with deeds.

“Let us prove that there is still space for Europe to become wiser, to grow faster, to become freer. Let us work together not only for the Europe that we have inherited or dreamed of, but for the Europe that we can still imagine together”, added Rama. /a.f/r.e/p.s./
