TIRANA, April 18/ATA/ On the International Day for Archaeological Monuments and Sites, the First Lady Armanda Begaj was in Berat to visit together with a group of students of this city the National Iconographic Museum “Onufri” as well as the “Solomon” museum dedicated to the rescue of the Jews.

Begaj chose the city of Berat, registered in the UNESCO World Heritage List, in order to raise students’ awareness of the significance of getting acquainted with the Albanian cultural heritage.

Today’s visit of the First Lady is in the course of her initiative and that of President of the Republic Bajram Begaj to promote the Albanian cultural heritage and to highlight the significance of educating children on this heritage.

In the “Onufri” National Museum, the students listened with great interest to Anila Dobroniku, the guide of this museum, who, as in a history lesson, explained to the students what the icons are and why they were necessary for the time.

Also, they had the opportunity to get to know the craftsmanship of Onufri, as well as other iconographers exhibited in the museum.

Addressing the children, Mrs. Begaj said, among other things, that, “You, children, have the great fortune to grow up in a city with a very ancient and extraordinary cultural heritage. Berat is an asset of yours, of all of us, but also of all humanity. Therefore, you have the beautiful task of getting to know your city, your country, to appreciate its artistic and cultural wealth, to preserve it, but also to promote it wherever you are.”

After visiting the “Onufri” Museum, the First Lady together with the accompanying students also visited the “Solomon” Museum, which is dedicated to the history of the rescue of the Jews in Berat.

With the desire and dedication to promote reading and knowledge of history among children and young people, Begaj donated books to the children on the heritage and history of Albania. /k.s/ /gj.m/r.e/p.s./
