PRISTINA, Aug 17 /ATA/ The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, said that the government is implementing something in line with the Constitution, but also with the commitments that Serbia made years ago in the Brussels negotiations.

He said that there is no other way but to implement the decision, when asked by journalists in Brussels if it is possible to withdraw from the decision on license plates.

The Prime Minister of Kosovo said that the implementation of the decisions is beneficial for everyone.

“Furthermore, Serbia itself has agreed that from mid-January 2018 they will no longer produce such signs in Serbia and will not force Serbs to use them. So, four years later, we are implementing something that is in accordance with the Constitution and our laws, i.e. legitimate, but on the other hand in line with the commitments of Serbia made during the negotiations in Brussels. So, there is no other way and I believe that it is beneficial for all of us to do everything legitimate and lawful in our country,” said Kurti.

Kurti emphasized that Kosovo needs support from the European Union and NATO to continue the fight against organized crime and corruption, citing the operations of the Kosovo Police in this direction.

“If you think about the two parties, on one side we have the democratic state of Kosovo, we have the professional police of our Republic, on the other side we have the illegal structures of Serbia that have turned into criminal gangs that have also put barricades, nine out of 13 of them were put in less than 10 minutes, in this sense it can be said that there are two sides but we cannot lose the moral compass, we cannot avoid the policies in place, so there must be zero tolerance towards crime and corruption, organized crime, from April of last year to July of this year, our police have jointly undertaken 39 different operations which have resulted in the arrest of dozens of criminals from multinational and international organized crime groups, even across the borders, many of them are also Albanian, not only Serbian, but the police do not differentiate between criminals in the sense of ethnicity or nationality,” he said.

PM of Kosovo appeared at a press conference alongside the Secretary General of NATO, to whom he told that Kosovo seeks membership in this organization.

On the other hand, the Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, said that KFOR will continue to guarantee an orderly and safe environment and free movement for all the people in Kosovo.

He emphasized that the only way to lasting peace is for Belgrade and Pristina to resolve their issues through dialogue facilitated by the EU.

He said that NATO is in Kosovo with almost 4,000 troops, which is the largest military presence outside NATO territory.
