TIRANA, May 24 /ATA/ Minister of Tourism and Environment, Mirela Kumbaro, said that the development of road infrastructure is revealing new destinations that were under the radar or less known to local and foreign tourists.

In a meeting with the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, also Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku and Minister of Interior, Taulant Balla, Kumbaro said that the time has come to see tourism as a genuine industry, due to the boom it has recently seen in terms of development.

She added that the first four months of 2024 saw 40% more tourists in the country, compared to the previous year.

“To cope with the challenges of tourism, the time has come to call it an industry, given that it is a priority all over Albania. The news about the opening of the Thumanë-Kashar road was greeted with enthusiasm by Kosovo brothers and sisters who are increasingly coming down as buyers of real estate. All tour operators announce that they have entered into 45% more contracts compared to a year ago. The first four months, January-April closed with 40% more visitors than last year. We will welcome 14 or 15 million tourists. Maintaining the safety standard is our next challenge,” said Balluku.

“The Palasë-Dërmi road created a new flow, the new Dukat roads are a joy for tourists and a responsibility for us. Roads reveal new destinations.”

“34 health centers were opened during the tourist season, more than ever before. A good part of the tourists continue to hike the mountain trails. The Ministry has certified over 60 local guides, all operators encourage and inform tourists to travel with local guides, to prevent fatality cases. Spreading information should be our daily work,” she emphasized.
