TIRANA, June 29 /ATA/ The “Me and You for the Environment” campaign launched by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment and the British Embassy to raise awareness about environmental protection and the legal ban on disposable plastic bags in Albania, brought together in an event Minister of Environment Mirela Kumbaro, Ambassador Alastair King-Smith, the mayor of Durrës, Emiriana Sako and residents of the coastal city.

In her remarks, Minister Kumbaro said that at this stage, from July 1, information is no longer enough, but the application of fines will begin in cases of production, import and trade of disposable plastic bags.

“We called this campaign ‘Me and you for the environment!’ What are you going to do? ” What you can do is carry a linen tote bag with you from now on so that you do not have to buy a plastic bag, despite the fact that the category of bags in circulation is versatile and will be purchased as a commodity. To save money and protect the environment, I believe that this is the best choice,” said Minister Kumbaro.

The meeting featured the unveiling of a mural by the artist Denis Golgota, which will stay on display in “Dyrrah” boulevard and symbolically, citizens are invited to write their personal commitments in environmental protection.

The British Ambassador in Tirana, Alastair King-Smith said that the environment is a very important issue for Albanians and the embassy campaign aims to make their voices heard.

“The environment is an issue of high importance, so let us all try to do something. My personal promise is to reduce the use of the vehicle, but I will do my best to fulfill this commitment by walking, pedaling even in sweltering temperatures, ” said Ambassador King-Smith, while launching the campaign and website: permvironmentin.al.

For the Durrës mayor, in this period when work is in high gear to clean up the city and welcome tourists, it is important that everyone does his part to keep the territory clean and protect the environment.
