TIRANA, April 19 /ATA/ Minister of Tourism and Environment, Mirela Kumbaro, convened the prefects of the 12 districts of the country in a meeting to communicate the priorities with view to ensuring a smooth running of the 2024 summer season.

Kumbaro emphasized that a year ago we received 10.1 million foreign visitors and for the first 3 months of 2024, the figures show 60% increase in influx of tourists, therefore mobilization, territory surveillance and cross-institutional communication are essential to ensure a successful summer season.

Regarding the municipalities that have a coastline, Minister Kumbaro said that the process of allotting beach stations has completed, meanwhile the decision giving the green-light to the construction of makeshift service structures, or what are otherwise called beach- bars has gone through the National Territory Council.

“Each municipality has received the list of approved entities, so the National Coastal Agency should conclude the relevant contracts before these businesses start building beach bars. IKMT will be on site to check that the permit granted for outdoor open-air bars are not cast in concrete. They are temporary building permits. There will be zero tolerance towards those breaching the law”, said Minister Kumbaro, also emphasizing that it is important to monitor the territory.

During her communication with the prefects, Kumbaro also mentioned the subjects that operate as marine tourism operators, which will not be allowed to exercise their activity if they are not issued with a certificate from the Ministry of Tourism and Environment.
