TIRANA, Oct 16 /ATA/ The Special Commission for coordinating and overseeing all institutional actions in combating disinformation and other forms of foreign interference in the country’s democratic processes held a hearing session with the Central Election Commission (CEC; the Electronic and Postal Communications Authority (EOCA); and the Audiovisual Media Authority (AMA).

The Chairwoman of the AMA, Armela Krasniqi, stated in her remarks that protection against disinformation is a challenge for the institution she leads.

First and foremost, it is a professional challenge as it is closely linked to the ability of professionals to double check sources despite the pressure to be the first to break the new or the pressure for more clicks ,” declared Krasniqi.

At the same time, Krasniqi emphasized that it is an educational challenge, as it relates to the public’s ability to navigate the abundance of information.

“It is a challenge in the effort to safeguard democratic standards because fact-checking and source verification should not lead to censorship,” said Krasniqi.

The Chairwoman of the AMA emphasized the institution’s determination in the fight against disinformation, describing it as guaranteeing the balance between freedom of expression on one hand and professional training on the other.
