PRISHTINA, July 18 /ATA/ – Kosovo’s acting Foreign Minister Glauk Konjufca said on Saturday he had sent a letter to European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, urging a stronger EU response to remarks by a Serbian minister that he said amounted to advocacy of ethnic cleansing.

Konjufca’s letter follows comments by Serbian Minister Snezhana Paunović, who said that, had she been in the position of former Serbian President Slobodan Milošević, she would have ethnically cleansed Kosovo in 1998.

In a post on X, Konjufca said such rhetoric from a serving government minister could not be dismissed as a mere slip of the tongue.

He called for a “clearer and stronger” public response from the European Union, saying it was essential to uphold the bloc’s commitment to preventing atrocity crimes, rejecting hate speech and combating historical revisionism.

Konjufca also urged the EU to publicly condemn the minister’s remarks and to address the issue within the framework of its political dialogue with Serbia and the country’s European Union accession process.

He requested an early meeting or phone call with Kallas to discuss the matter further.

PRISTINA, Jan 16 /ATA/ – Kosovo Foreign Minister Donika Gërvalla renewed the appeal to the international community to condemn Serbia for its act of aggression on Kosovo in September last year.

Kosovo diplomacy chief said at a joint press conference with the Albanian counterpart Igli Hasani that Kosovo and Albania should unify and coordinate their foreign policy.

Gërvalla stated that the international community should not remain silent, but should severely punish any attempts to destabilize the neighboring countries.

“We should remain vigilant as the organized crime, together with imported structures from Serbia, will definitely seek to destabilize our country this year too,” she said.

Gërvalla also said that she and the visiting Albanian Foreign Minister Igli Hasani had agreed to jointly inform and draw the attention of the human rights organizations after the arrest of Kosovo citizens by Serbia and call for their release.

“Albania will play a proactive role in all security and peace issues in the region. I would like to thank Albania for the extraordinary contribution to peace during tenure as temporary member of the United Nations Security Council,” Gërvalla said.

“We agreed on exchange of young diplomats, use of best contemporary and European diplomacy practice, enhanced cooperation and joint actions, and diplomacy empowerment,” she added.
