TIRANA, Sept  30  /ATA/ –KosovaPress news agency has officially been accepted as a full member of the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA), where ATA is a full member.

In attendance of the next EANA meeting was also the General Director of ATA, Valbona Zhupa.

The decision to admit KosovaPress which requires three quarters of the votes of all members was made by secret vote. KosovaPress (Kosovo), MIA (North Macedonia) and Armenpress (Armenia) applied to be part of this organization.

Out of 32 member countries, (after the breakout of the war in Ukraine, the Russian news agency TASS has been suspended), 27 news agencies have participated.

KosovaPress received 25 votes  against the quorum of 24, becoming the 33rd member of the Alliance (https://www.newsalliance.org).

The agency of North Macedonia (MIA) and Armenia (Armenpress) did not reach the quorum.

With this membership, KosovaPress has more opportunities to cooperate with all European news agencies.

This is the most important organization where KosovaPress adheres to, completing the path of membership in the network of European news agencies.

The European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA) was founded on 21 August 1956 at a conference on new media technology held in Strasbourg. In 1970, the so-called “Iron Curtain” agencies were invited to join. EANA’s predecessor, Agences Alliées, was founded in 1924 and was active until World War II when activities were interrupted.

EANA serves as a forum for cooperation and exchange of information and experiences between European news agencies. The focus of the activity is the collection and dissemination of news, maintaining a healthy climate and  following the universal rules of journalism such as freedom of the press and fair competition.
