In a social media post, Peleshi said that on Dec. 10, 1916, local leaders in Korça took a decision that “changed the course of the country’s history,” helping resist occupying forces and defend Albania’s territorial integrity at a time when neighbouring states sought to annex parts of its territory.

“Today we honour a generation that showed heroism and proved that loyalty to the homeland has no price,” he said.

Peleshi added that the significance of the event has become clearer over time, saying Korça’s patriots “wrote a golden page of Albania’s history” and left a legacy that continues to inspire future generations.
