An operational programme for 2026-2029, to be implemented by the Albanian Development Fund, foresees investment of 500 million leks in a project titled “Integrated interventions for the development of cultural tourism and agritourism – Region 4”.

The project will be carried out through coordinated institutional cooperation between the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports, the Konispol municipality, the National Institute of Cultural Heritage and the development fund.

The intervention includes the creation of a museum complex and the expansion of agritourism offer in Konispol.

The investment aims not only to preserve heritage but also to turn it into a driver of local economic and social development, positioning Konispol as a key historical and community destination.

Last year, the government designated Konispol an urban architectural ensemble of special historical and cultural value.

Prime Minister Edi Rama shared in the social media today a view of this school. Beyond improving teaching facilities, investments have expanded sports infrastructure through the construction and renovation of athletic fields.

Thanks to this investment, the school now features a modern heating system and enhanced energy efficiency.

The investment optimized the learning environment—especially in winter—while significantly lowering energy costs.

The decision, approved by the Council of Ministers, aims to protect, restore, and promote this heritage-rich area, Minister of Economy, Culture and Innovation Blendi Gonxhja announced on Thursday.

Konispol features traditional 19th–20th century stone houses, remnants of an old marketplace, cobblestone alleys, and neighborhoods bearing the names of local clans, alongside ancient settlements such as Qafa e Ktismave.

“Historically a center of resistance and national culture, Konispol’s new status marks a significant step toward sustainable development through cultural tourism,” Gonxhja stated.

The decision is the result of work by the National Institute of Cultural Heritage, aiming to preserve and highlight Albania’s immovable cultural assets.

During the talks with the local authorities, the Head of State appreciated the efforts being made for promotion of agri-tourism in this area as a way in face of emigration and suggested ​​its further development.

“I noticed cultivated lands, in full bloom, extraordinary landscapes and natural beauty that render into a very significant tourist attraction”, said the President of the Republic.

“Agriculture, agritourism and animal husbandry are areas that should receive increased attention and we should make people focus on them because through them we will achieve the well-being of our citizens”, emphasized the Head of State, simultaneously evaluating Konispol for the high patriotic, historical and social-cultural values.

President Begaj expressed gratitude and estimation to the local residents of Konispol who continue to preserve the traditions of growing citrus fruits, olives and vineyards.

The president expressed his support for development and well-being of the area, stressing the need to address problems into the relevant institutions.

Also, the President of the Republic paid a visit to the house museum of the writer Bilal Xhaferi in the village of Ninat.

The Head of State, accompanied by the Mayor of Konispol Ergest Dule, laid a wreath of flowers at the Monumental Cemetery “Chamëria Roses” in Klogjer, a memorial dedicated to the victims of the Chami people exodus during the period 1944-1945. /p.s./

“With Emilio, Pandeliu and Joni, our young people full of energy, who are building their future in their own country by engaging in agriculture”, said Krifca, who also shared a video in the social media of the conversation with the young people.

“I am one of the smallest farmers in Konispol municipality. I like agriculture, it seems to me something very profitable with great benefits. I pursue my studies at the Faculty of Economics and I fit in very well there. I made a business plan for the Konispol area, which is an agro-tourism”, said one of the farmers.

Another young man said that, “I graduated in agronomy at the University in Greece. I got experience there and I have been following the season here for 3-4 years while picking and selling tangerines. We have gathered a group of farmers; we are doing some things”.

Another farmer said that, “We have a family business, an oil factory, one of the first in Albania, not only in this area, opened since 1994 and we generally process the olives of the local farmers for payment. Since the oil produced in this area and the machine we have that can do a cold water processing, a German machine, we try to find a market for the oil at a pretty good price. Tomorrow, we expect an Italian merchant who will take a considerable quantity of oil, to begin with. As a young man, I see the future in this area; it is an area that I like and I want to continue in the agri-tourism. Since Ksamil and Saranda are 30 km away and they are full of tourists, our area also offers opportunities for agri-tourism. Especially Konsipoli which is a town that is located on a hill and from which you can see the sea, the river, the lake, the field, the isle in front, all possible options that the human eye can see. We have a further development project that also includes agri-tourism, in addition to olives”. /p.s./

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the tangerine production is plentiful, high quality and sold at an affordable price.

The production of tangerines this year in the Konispol area is expected to reach more than 50 thousand tons. Plantations with tangerines and other citrus fruits in Konispol have become a model of investment in Albanian agriculture, where almost all residents of Konispol municipality work, while generating employment for other residents from the area of ​​Ksamil, Delvina, directly influencing in increasing income for the farming economy.

Agricultural experts indicate that the growing production of tangerines is due to expansion with new tree plantings that have been done as well as continuous care to maintain quality standards in production.

Tangerines from the Konispoli area are valued for their high quality and production without harmful pesticides and this makes the product on demand by markets in other countries of the Balkans and Eastern Europe.

In addition to tangerines, the farms of Konispol also grow kiwi fruit, which is sold mostly in the local market.

Most of the local residents of Konispol have cultivated citrus fruits on their farms and year after year the production increases, turning it into the basic sector of the area’s economy./p.s./

Degraded for years, today the irrigation system in Janjari, is in full operation, providing 20 million m3 of water for about 5 thousand hectares of arable land in the entire area of Konispol, southern country.

The Prime Minister Edi Rama shared today on the social media images from the impressive work in Janjari area.

“This is one of the largest investments in the irrigation infrastructure of agricultural lands, the project on the rehabilitation of irrigation system in Janjari, degraded for years, since April it is in full operation, providing 20 million m3 of water for about 5 thousand hectares of arable land in the whole area of Konispol,” the premier Rama said.

Thanks to government investments over the past years the irrigated area of agricultural land has doubled from about 120 thousand ha in 2013 to 255 thousand ha in 2020, one of the most meaningful evidence of the renaissance going ahead in agriculture sector. //a.i/
