The road was in poor condition, with infrastructure that not only posed risks to communication but also fell short of the standards needed for tourism in the northern region and across the country.

The full reconstruction, implemented by the Albanian Power Corporation due to the operations between the two hydroelectric plants, marks the first step towards sustainable development in one of the country’s most stunning regions.

Focusing on some details of this investment, Balluku highlighted that, “this road was built in 1980 and is 31 kilometers long.”

Balluku explained that the road, connecting the Vau i Dejës and Koman hydroelectric plants, is vital for energy operations. The current state of the road creates significant challenges, including emergencies and staff movements, which is why the Albanian Electric Power Corporation is reconstructing it.

She explained that after a thorough analysis starting in 2020 and considering the financial stabilization of the Electric Power Corporation, it was determined that the dilapidated road needs reconstruction. The Albanian Power Corporation, known for its strong corporate social responsibility, not only focuses on energy production but also ensures employee safety, faster operations, and serves the community.

Balluku highlighted that the reconstruction of the road will result in a high-quality infrastructure, benefiting both the community and tourism. She noted that the Electric Power Corporation has observed a significant increase in tourist numbers at the Koman Dam and around the lake in recent years.

“The completion of this 31 km road reconstruction will benefit the entire community,” Deputy Prime Minister Balluku said.
