Talks focused on the current process and the next steps as part of Albania’s path towards integration into the European Union. Slovakia is an ally committed to unequivocally supporting the opening of technical negotiations between Albania and the EU.

The Chief Negotiator expressed his gratitude to Klus for Slovakia’s support for Albania and focused on important steps to speed up European integration process for Albania and other Western Balkan countries.

Also, Chief Negotiator Mazi provided an overview of Albania’s efforts to fully deliver on the conditions included on the Council’s conclusions in March 2020.

Slovakia’s State Secretary praised the reforms undertaken by Albania in the field of justice, fundamental freedoms and the fight against organized crime. He underlined that the Justice Reform of Albania is the most complete reform implemented by an EU candidate country.

Chief Negotiator Mazi and the Slovak Secretary of State agreed on the need to hold the first Albania-EU intergovernmental conference.
