The production of kiwi fruit in Albania for 2020 reached more than 680 tons, while the increase of cultivation area has changed the balance of import-export, where years ago this fruit was only imported.

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Milva Ekonomi shared today in the social media the already successful examples of Albanian farmers in cultivation of the kiwi fruit in Albania.

“The experiences of our farmers have gained while in emigration, have been implemented in Albanian land and I am pleased to note that there are already some areas in our country where this fruit is being successfully cultivated like in Durres, Fier, Vau I Dejes, Pogradec, Librazhd, Belsh,” she said.

Kiwi is a tropical fruit, but that has been introduced to our country during the last 2 decades. Meanwhile, in the early 1970s, the first attempts to cultivate it were made in the experimental garden of the Agricultural Research Institute in Lushnja./p.s./
