TIRANA, June 13 /ATA/ – The main opposition Democratic Party lawmaker Jorida Tabaku said Tuesday that an agreement between the Albanian government and Germany’s development bank KfW on sustainable and climate-friendly management of solid waste ran counter overlapped with current concessionary contracts on waste management.

Speaking at a session of the Parliamentary Committee on Economy that approved a 50-million euros loan agreement with KfW, the opposition lawmaker said that the bank and the German development agency GIZ had proposed a project on building regional landfills, but the project was turned down and violated by the Albanian government.

“Therefore, we can no longer keep implementing the same strategy after three contracts on building incinerators were signed. KfW and GIZ have stated that you have moved to the wrong direction. Now you are saying that you are borrowing money to return to that strategy,” Tabaku said.

According to her, the project will cause additional cost on the municipalities of Tirana, Durres and Elbasan.
