TIRANA, Jan 21 /ATA/- By Maela Marini/ Prime Minister Edi Rama stated on Tuesday, “We have fought a historic battle for justice, ensuring its independence from political influence and laying the groundwork for justice to serve all, in every case.”

In a video message, Rama replied to a social media commenter who viewed the failure to deliver justice for the January 21 victims as mockery, arguing that Rama had the opportunity to deliver justice when he took office as prime minister.

Rama stated, “If someone with ‘Primare in PD’ in their profile accuses me of failing to deliver justice for January 21, this is both sad and absurd. However, I have no intention of engaging in any debates with commenters here. Let’s focus on the core issue, because many others, motivated by the desire for justice, forget that we live in a system where, God forbid, justice is not decided by the prime minister, the government, or the ruling party.”

The Prime Minister went on saying, “It should be clear that any claims, criticisms, or accusations directed at me or us for failure to deliver justice for January 21 are simply levelled against the wrong party.”

On the other hand, Rama emphasized, “We have not remained idle; instead, we have fought a historic and epochal battle for justice, for its independence from political influence, and for laying the groundwork for justice to serve everyone, in all matters.”

The Prime Minister added, “Without the Socialist Party and my leadership, there would have been no Justice Reform, no SPAK, and no visible shift in the course of justice, as seen by those who are willing to acknowledge it, though the new path of justice may still have many elements subject to criticism, and at times, even aspects that are unacceptable.”

However, he stated, “This is a new path, where the new institutions have our full support, and a key part of this exceptional support, unlike anything seen before or in our region, is our commitment to refraining from commenting on specific cases, even when we may strongly disagree with how they are handled.”

Speaking about January 21, Rama expressed his hope that SPAK would soon concentrate exclusively on the January 21 case, without being sidetracked by other issues.

“What can I say about justice for January 21? Do I have anything to say? I have so much that I cannot share it all, but even today, I will remain true to my stance of not commenting, hoping and wishing to believe that SPAK will not be engrossed in everything else for much longer, except for January 21, which is, moreover, a case as clear as daylight. Therefore, every year that passes not only adds to the burden of shame for those who must deliver the missing justice, but it also tarnishes the Justice Reform itself, humiliating not only the families of the martyrs of January 21 but an entire nation that seeks justice for January 21 and deserves justice for January 21, because justice for January 21 is not just justice for a past event, but for today’s and tomorrow’s Albania,” Rama added.
