TIRANA, Dec 19 /ATA/ The Chief Prosecutor of the Special Structure Against Corruption and Organized Crime, Altin Dumani, stated on Thursday that five years ago, Albanian society took a decisive and bold step in the fight against corruption and organized crime.
During the event celebrating the 5th anniversary of SPAK’s establishment, Dumani remarked, “On December 19, 2019, five years ago, the Special Structure Against Corruption and Organized Crime was founded as part of the new judicial institutions created by the justice reform—a reform that has never been questioned by the Albanian people. Five years ago, Albanian society took a bold and decisive step in the fight against corruption and organized crime.”
Dumani stressed that the Special Prosecution was established to show that all individuals are equal before the law, and no one can enjoy privileges under it.
Dumani stated, “The Special Prosecution was established to play a central role in this mission, to show that it can rise up to challenge of restoring the rule of law to Albanian citizens, and reinforcing one of the fundamental principles of democracy: that all individuals are equal before the law and no one is above it.”

Dumani emphasized, “From the moment we applied to be part of this structure, we were clear that these two missions would also help us contribute to Albania’s path toward integration into the large European family. We are proud of the contribution to facilitating the achievement of this aspiration for our fellow citizens.”

Dumani emphasized, “We are committed, on the path to integration, to upholding the European standard of rule of law, alongside our international partners, as members of a larger family, to safeguarding and strengthening the rule of law.”
Dumani went on saying, “SPAK has seized and confiscated over 182 million euros worth of assets obtained through illegal activities. Justice is not swayed by sides; there are no untouchables when the laws of this country are violated.”

Dumani stated, “Sixty-one high-ranking officials have been prosecuted for corruption, of whom 70% have been referred to trial.”

Regarding organized crime, Dumani stated, “A total of 955 individuals have been prosecuted, of whom 55% have been referred to trial.”

“In the field of terrorism, 29 individuals have been prosecuted, all of whom have been referred to trial,” said Dumani.
“Over these five years, we have held high-ranking officials at all levels accountable, demonstrating that corruption can be challenged, organized crime is brought to justice, and no one stands above the law,” emphasized Dumani.

“We are proud of our contribution to facilitating Albania’s integration into the European family, while upholding European standards of rule of law,” said chief prosecutor of SPAK.

“Our mission does not end with the next case. We are here to ensure a strong justice system, where the law is applied equally and is not a privilege for some and suffering for others,” he emphasized.
Dumani expressed his gratitude to the international partners.

He expressed his gratitude to our international partners, especially the United States and the European Union, who stand side by side with us, enabling the expansion of cooperation and the increase of information exchange for our joint investigations,” said the head of SPAK.
“Corruption and crime cannot be eradicated overnight,” said Dumani. “However, in the face of every threat and challenge, we remain united, with steadfast professionalism and personal integrity,” he added.

Dumani emphasized, “We are committed to serving our country, the Albanian justice system, and the Albanian citizens. Our shared aspiration is to have a strong justice system that serves everyone equally.”
He said, “Anyone who believes that justice is biased is mistaken. We act in accordance with the law and with due consideration for human rights.”
Dumani stated, “In these five years, we have learned that our path is challenging, but it is also a vital duty for the future of the generations to come.”

Dumani expressed his gratitude not only to the prosecutors, investigators, and international partners but also, especially, to the families of the SPAK prosecutors, who, as he said, “have put up with our absence and supported us despite the challenges.”
