108 years ago, on May 10, 1913, when the “Zhuri Canon” was adopted, Albania was at the infancy of state-building by the Assembly of Vlora. The ‘ Zhuria Canon’ was the first act and the cornerstone after independence for the creation of the main bodies of the legislative, executive and the reorganization of the judiciary,” said Gjonaj.

“To come to this 108th anniversary, we remember the period 1990 onwards, divided before and after 2016 when the Justice reform started and was unanimously passed on July 21-22 of that year, ” – says Gjonaj.

“We ran into difficulties and obstacles to have a new justice system, but we are closer than ever to the aspiration to have a rule of law and a justice system based on integrity, professional proficiency and independence from politics. We are going through a historic moment to establish a new model of justice and mark a turning point in Albania that can serve as a model of success for other countries. Now the justice system itself must act in independence and impartiality,” Gjonaj underlined.
