TIRANA, Dec 27 /ATA/ – The Minister of Justice Ulsi Manja hailed Wednesday a Constitutional Court ruling that confirmed the new judicial map in Albania.

Justice Minister said that the High Judicial Council and the Ministry of Justice will now continue work on enforcement of the new judicial map in the country.

“The High Judicial Council and the Ministry of Justice will continue to work closely, as they have been doing to date, on implementation of the new judicial map with the help of our partners, who assist the justice system reform, with the aim of increasing the efficiency of the judicial system and reducing back log of courts,” Manja said in a post on the social media.

Earlier today, the Constitutional Court rejected a motion filed by the Lawyers Association and the Helsinki Committee for the revocation of the new judicial map.

The new judicial map is designed to reduce the number of courts across Albania to address the shortage of judges and the overload of the justice system.

According to the new judicial map, the number of first instance courts in Albania is expected to fall to 13 from 22 courts currently, whereas the number of administrative courts will be cut from six to three, based in Lushnje and Tirana.

TIRANA, July 13 /ATA/-By Maela Marini/- The chairperson of the High Judicial Council (HJC) Naureda Llagami stated Wednesday that “any delay in finalizing adoption of a new judicial map would trigger chaos in Albania’s judiciary.”

HJC Chairperson provided a detailed outline of the new judicial map and the need to reduce the number of courts across Albania to address the shortage of judges and the overload of the justice system at a hearing of the Parliamentary Committee on the Legal Affairs.

According to her, “the whole judicial map project has been considered carefully and a working team has been working on the project for a long time now.”

“Delays in finalizing adoption of the new judicial map would cause troubles in appointing new judges, as we are already facing problems in filling the vacancies. The new judicial map is designed to ensure a better and proper allocation of human resources and this wouldn’t’ impact the service,” she said.

According to the new judicial map, the number of first instance courts in Albania is expected to fall to 13 from 22 courts currently, whereas the number of administrative courts will be cut from six to three, based in Lushnje and Tirana.

According to HJC, the new judicial map reform was delivered in accordance with the highest international standards.

The HJC also decided to merge six courts of appeal into a single court, the National Court of Appeals based in Tirana.

TIRANA, June 11 /ATA/ – The High Judicial Council (HJC) adopted Saturday a new judicial map designed to reduce the number of courts across Albania to address the shortage of judges and the overload of the justice system.

According to the new judicial map, the number of first instance courts in Albania is expected to fall to 13 from 22 courts currently, whereas the number of administrative courts will be cut from six to three, based in Lushnje and Tirana.

The High Judicial Council, HJC, and the Ministry of Justice proposed the map last December.

HJC said in a press release that adoption of the new judicial map marks conclusion of a three-year work by the Inter-Institutional Working Team, intensively assisted by the Council of Europe experts.

“The adopted act reflects the suggestions and the opinions forwarded during the public consultations process hosted in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice, representatives of the local bar associations, General Prosecutor’s Office, judges, judicial workers, as well as the civil society organizations and business community. The Working Team decided that the judicial map reform in Albania is designed to merge smaller and less effective courts with bigger ones,” HJC said in its press release.

According to HJC, the new judicial map reform was delivered in accordance with the highest international standards.

The HJC also decided to merge six courts of appeal into a single court, the National Court of Appeals based in Tirana.
