The National Museum of Medieval Art in Korça emphasizes that Johan the Baptist is considered a very important prophet, he is considered as the forerunner of Christ, the saint or prophet who paved the way for him. Many times he is considered as the last prophet or the first saint based on their sacred history.

In this icon, John the Baptist is depicted holding in his hand a scroll inscribed with the sacred word for the coming of the Savior of the world. This element is very significant simply for the fact that John the Baptist brought the good message.

Behind him the painter has painted the Jordan River, the river where Christ was baptized. But unlike the Byzantine models in this icon the Jordan River is painted in a very real context in the midst of the vegetation.
