Found in the St. Koll church in the village of Vanaj in Fier, painted by Kostandin Zograf, the icon underwent these phases of restoration: icon painting consolidation, disinfection, cleaning, varnish coating to protect the icon painting.

“The meticulous, delicate and passionate work of the DRTK-Berat restorers has brought to light another treasure from the DRTK-Berat artwork restoration laboratory,” according to DRTK Berat, which has shared the photo of the icon before and after restoration.

Restorations and maintenance of religious icons have become a priority. Relevant institutions and specialists for the maintenance of these icons are doing their restoration to make them worthy to show both the value and the history they carry.

The main goal of the Berat Regional Directorate of National Culture is to take these works of art out of the degradation phase, giving them the opportunity to be exhibited as part of a process aimed at preserving and promoting Cultural Heritage.
