Speaking during a visit to an Albanian Armed Forces base, where the first shipment of the systems was received, Defence Minister said an initial batch of Javelin launch systems and associated missiles has now been delivered.

He added that the shipment is part of a planned process, with a second phase of deliveries expected in 2026.

Vengu said the bilateral cooperation with the United States also covers Kosovo and is strategically important for regional security. The programme includes training of personnel and upgrades to infrastructure to support the deployment and operation of the systems.

He said the delivery fulfils a long-standing request that is now being implemented through the provision of modern, high-standard anti-tank equipment.

Defence chief added that Kosovo has already completed all the due payment transactions under a purchase plan and that the advanced anti-tank weapon systems “Javelin” will soon be part of Kosovo’s Security Force arsenal, declining to disclose the delivery date due to the confidentiality of the process.

Maqedonci underlined that Kosovo has been armed with Turkish-made medium-range anti-tank weapon systems “OMTAS”, similar to the “Javelin’ anti-tank systems.

Defence Minister said that Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s government has invested around 240 million euros in purchasing advanced armament systems in the last three years.

He added that Kosovo’s defence spending was estimated at 2% of the country’s GDP in 2023, a target that should be met by all NATO member states.
