TIRANA, Jan 28 /ATA/ On 28th January 2025, the Government of Japan handed over a Hysteroscopy System to the Shkodra Regional Hospital, amounting to EUR 62,000, under the framework of Japan’s Grant scheme “Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects” (GGP). This new equipment will contribute to the improvement of the gynecological diagnostic and surgical interventions of the Shkodra Regional Hospital, benefiting female residents across the entire Shkodra region.

This is the second collaboration with Shkodra Regional Hospital, where in the fiscal year 2020 the Government of Japan donated an Endoscopy System through the GGP program, supporting Shkodra Hospital to restart operations in the Digestive Endoscopic Department and significantly improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the medical services provided to its patients.

The handover ceremony was held at the Hospital in the presence of H.E. Ms. Kato Kikuko, Ambassador of Japan to Albania, as well as Mr. Senad Hallunaj, Hospital Director and the staff of its Obstetrics-Gynecology Department. During the ceremony, Ambassador Kato emphasized that the new equipment will enable accurate and painless medical diagnoses for women and improve the quality of obstetrics and gynecology care in the region. She mentioned that this is in line with achieving equitable development throughout Albania, on which the Government of Japan places importance. She also hoped that through this project the relations between Japan and the Shkodra region as well as Albania will be further strengthened. Hospital Director Hallunaj expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the Government of Japan for their continuous support.
In the field of healthcare sector in Albania, the Government of Japan has been providing similar grants to the hospitals nationwide for the provision of medical equipment since 2018.
