TIRANA, Jan 21 /ATA/ – By Maela Marini/ The chairman of the SP parliamentary group, Taulant Balla, said that “the reopening of investigation into January 21 tragedy is irrelevant to April 25 elections, but for the SP it is a millstone, which weighs on our morale and of our society. ”

In a televised interview, Balla said that “we all agree that this issue has not been solved, even though there is a shameful decision delivered by the first-instance and Appellate Courts.”

“There are two files, the file on Faik, Ziver and Hekuran whose murderers are two officers, the commander of the Republican Guard and another officer, and the file on Aleks Nika, which the prosecution has put on hold in 2020. Justice, together with the prosecution and the courts, have tried to made use of the statute of limitations for the first file. We have closely followed this case in court hearings and have also called on the prosecution to act, “said Balla.

Balla said that “most of the prosecutors and judges who handled the first case have either resigned or have been dismissed by Vetting.”

“Neither I nor Edi Rama have been judges or prosecutors. In a country like Albania, judges and prosecutors are presumed to be independent. Not only for this issue, but for many issues that are related to justice, we have managed to ensure independence from politics. We are at the beginning of this process. Fortunately for the file on the murder of Aleks Nika the maximum length of time has not elapsed, if the tasks are performed accordingly, including a re-examination of the projectile found in the body of Aleks Nika. The family suspects that the shell was intentionally damaged, after it was brought to Albania by the Turkish hospital. “Those who damaged the shell are linked with the then government,” he said.
