TIRANA, Jan 13 /ATA/ Exporters of medicinal plants, during this year, will be able to perform accredited analyses for recognition in EU countries at state laboratories.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Dhimo Kote, told the media that the exporters of medicinal plants will no longer carry out the analyses abroad in European countries, as very soon the ISUV (Institute of Food Safety and Veterinary Medicine) will be accredited for these analyses.

“So all producers and processors of medicinal plants will take the samples to the ISUV state laboratory, against the state fees for any service that will be required”, said Kote, as he pointed out that ISUV performs accredited analyses, but in order to obtain additional analysis in accordance with the increased requirements of the EU, the accreditation and training of the body is needed.

“From the discussions we have had with management staff of ISUV, it is expected that we will go through the necessary stages very quickly. I think that this issue will be resolved by the middle of next year,” he said.
The Institute of Food and Veterinary Safety (ISUV) performs about 1,368 analyses accredited according to the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard for international recognition. Of these, 450 active analyses were performed for the residue in the products.
Exports of medicinal plants for 2022 reached the value of 6.2 billion lek, about 14% more than 2021.
