In a post on social media platform X, Peleg said she supported the right of Albanian citizens to protest and freely express their views, but argued that the incident went beyond legitimate public demonstration.

“Last night in Tirana, protesters removed the Israeli flag and tore it apart amid cheers from the crowd gathered at the scene,” Peleg wrote.

“As the ambassador of a democratic state, I believe in the right of the Albanian people to exercise their civic right to protest. However, such an act not only fails to serve the cause of public protest, but also undermines the dignity of the Albanian people and their proud heritage,” she said.

Peleg also thanked Albanian Foreign Minister Ferit Hoxha for what she described as his immediate and unequivocal condemnation of the incident.

The reaction came after Albania’s Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs condemned a group of protesters for removing and defacing the Israeli embassy flag, describing the act as incompatible with the country’s democratic values and traditions of tolerance and respect.

During the meeting with Ambassador Peleg, Speaker Nikolla reconfirmed that the parliament, the government of Albania and the Albanian people strongly condemn the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel and Albania stands with the Israeli people in these difficult moments of war.

“This is not just Israel’s fight, but a war between the civilized world and terrorists. In these extremely tragic moments for the Israeli people, the civilized world stands with them and condemns terrorism and the killing of innocent people. Albania stands by its strategic partners, the USA and the EU, in the fight against terrorism to defend security and peace,” Nikolla said.

Israeli Ambassador Peleg expressed appreciation to Speaker Nikolla for the support of the Assembly and Albanian people for Israel during these difficult times.
