TIRANA, December 23/ATA/ It is expected to start soon the rehabilitation project of the panoramic trail and the monumental lighting of the Maligrad isle. Prefect of Korça region Nertil Jole gave the news saying that the project was designed by Korça Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage, with financial support from the European Union, the Ministry of Culture of Albania and North Macedonia.

This rehabilitation takes place in context of the “Smart4you2” project. The implementation of the project is expected to increase the number of visitors to Prespa, as a very special destination of the Korça region.

Maligrad is a small island located in the Albanian part of the Lake Prespa. It is characterized by a large number of caves, suitable for wild fauna. In the interior of the island, there is the church of St. Mary. An inscription on the South side, the earliest in this church, dates back to the year 1345 along with the first phase of the decoration of this church with frescoes. This church is an important tourist attraction not only for the national park of Prespa, but for the entire region and Albania.

Objects such as tiles, columns and capitals have also been found in Maligrad, which according to archaeologists belong to a Paleo-Christian church that is thought to have been in the upper part of the lake. /j.p/p.s./

TIRANA, August 6 /ATA/ Karaburun-Sazan, the only national marine park extending over an area of about 1.9 km, in recent years has become a tourist destination for many local and foreign visitors with cruise ships departing from the port of Vlora.

During the summer months, the cruise ships operate on a busier schedule, sailing almost daily.

Director of the Regional Administration of Protected Areas, Vlora, Nexhip Hysolakoj, told ATA that, “In the months of June and July alone, 17,553 local and foreign tourists visited this park; they traveled on the tourist ships that depart from the port of Vlora”.

According to him, the park is mainly visited by Italian, Greek, Polish, French, German, etc. tourists.

The boat trip to Sazan-Karaburun offers real opportunities to visit the park as well as a different day in Vlora bay.

It is worth mentioning the natural monument, the Cave of Haxhi Ali (the most visited attraction by tourists), the natural and cultural bay of Grama (the farthest southern end of the marine park), the island of Sazan, the biggest attraction since the opening of this isle for the public. For all those who wish to spend moments of relaxation in nature and tranquility, the marine park offers a unique natural experience with its shores of St. Basil, St. Jan, Devil’s Bay.

Announced in 2010 as a Marine National Park, Karaburun-Sazani is Albania’s only national marine park./k.s/p.s./
