TIRANA, April 17 /ATA/ Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, who also serves as Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, announced on Thursday that the draft law “On the Energy Sector” will be released for public consultation next week.

At the roundtable discussion “The Energy Market and Its Stakeholders,” held today with representatives from both the public and private sectors, Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku emphasized: “We believe it is essential to have a comprehensive law that can stand the test of time—one that doesn’t require constant revisions or cause uncertainty in the investment processes within the sector.”

She invited market players to submit their proposals for the draft law.

Furthermore, Balluku announced that thanks to investments and reforms in the sector, losses have now dropped to 18%, down from 45% in 2023.
“We took over the sector burdened with €700 million in debt, technical losses of over 45%, and revenue collection below 75%. Today, those technical losses have been reduced to 18%,” Balluku said.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Prime Minister highlighted that currently, 10% of the country’s energy production is sourced from photovoltaic parks.

“Today, we have large Albanian and European companies building photovoltaic parks that guarantee the country’s energy security and turn Albania into a net exporter,” she said.

Balluku mentioned that in addition to increasing production capacities, the government is also enhancing transmission capacities.

Thanks to the investments made and the reforms, Balluku emphasized, we managed to reduce the price for over 1 million household subscribers. /j.p/sm/
