TIRANA, March 11 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama announced today that Albania’s EU membership is the Socialist Party’s goal, which will be accomplished in the next term of office.

In the “Sy m’sy” segment, where Prime Minister Rama engages with citizens, he discussed the funds Albania will receive up until 2027, when the country is expected to be given the green light for EU membership.

Prime Minister Rama said, “Our program is clear and well-known. While we’ll address a few key points, the main goal remains Albania’s EU membership.”

Rama revealed that in 2013, when the Socialist Party took office, Albania received roughly 200 million euros from the EU. Today, he said, the country receives more than 600 million euros annually.

Rama stated, “In total, investments from the EU amount to nearly 700 million euros. Today, the stock of EU investments in Albania is estimated at around 6 billion euros. Meanwhile, we aim to increase it to 9 billion euros.”

Rama clarified the future of EU investments in our country following Albania’s EU membership.

“Me hyrjen në BE, fondet e përfituara nga BE, në periudhën 2014-2020 ishin 1 miliard euro. Për 2021-2027 si buxhet që BE ka parashikuar për Shqipërinë është 2.6 miliardë euro. Ndërkohë që me futjen në BE llogaria bëhet 1 miliard euro, mesatarisht në vit”, theksoi kryeministri.

“In the light of Albania’s EU accession, the funds received from the EU for the period 2014-2020 amounted to 1 billion euros. For the 2021-2027 period, the budget the EU has allocated for Albania is 2.6 billion euros. However, once Albania joins the EU, the annual average will increase to 1 billion euros per year,” emphasized the Prime Minister.

Rama emphasized that agriculture will be one of the sectors receiving the most support.

“Currently, if we allocate less than 200 million euros from the state budget and other streams such as donations to agriculture, we will have an extra 300 million euros annually,” he said.

He stressed that if there is just one reason, it is enough to end any further debate.

“There is only one reason: Albania in the EU. Seizing this opportunity, this window of alignment between our fate and Europe’s, with the view of membership, is at the heart of our agenda. After that, we will certainly gain many other benefits in various areas,” Rama stated.
