TIRANA, June 22 /ATA/ Investments to rehabilitate the irrigation and drainage system have restored entire areas of agricultural land, while government support schemes have encouraged farmers to expand their arable land.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Edi Rama shared the successful example of the farmers of Katundi i Ri in Durrës, publishing on social networks images of the areas planted with wheat.

“From Katundi i Ri in Durrës where the local farmers, beneficiaries of investments such as rehabilitation of water catchments, dams, and cleanup of drainage and irrigation canals and tax-free oil have expanded the area planted with wheat,” Rama says.

In addition to investments in agriculture, the tax-free oil scheme is one of the measures that was welcome to farmers, as it gives them the opportunity to reduce production costs and increase the use of mechanization, especially in this difficult period due to soaring prices of imported commodities.
Around 3 600 farmers have applied for the tax-free oil scheme.
